A couple months back when I did Paul's 12 Days of December I wrote about The Grid and talked about how much I loved it (I mean, it did make my list of 12 for the year!). Well, this month as I was flipping through my March issue of Los Angeles Magazine (www.lamag.com) I noticed a little write up and recommendation for The Grid in their Bike + Run Users Guide. I just recently had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot for Resist Magazine's February issue. The issue was a special issue, A Tribute to Love, and came out on February 14th, Valentine's Day. I did a feature titled, Dating in Today's World. Wardrobe provided by Lira Clothing.

I had a blast not only working with the female model, Sanci Keyon, but Photographer Kev Bailey and the entire team! It was a fast (sadly that's rare in this industry), and fun time. I look forward to seeing future issues and working together again!

How appropriate, a Narcissus inspired themed editorial shoot!
As I'm sure you would expect, I had to really focus and pull deep on all my skills as an actor to pull this one off! Very against type, an actor admiring himself!! Thank God for my theatre training!! :)

Below is the series I shot recently with the talented photographer, All Occasion Photos (Quentin Brooks) while I was in Sacramento. I think it turned out great, and really enjoy Quentin's "Fairy Tale Feel" to the photos. I especially love the last shot in the series! Fun stuff.

WOW, can you believe it, my FINAL Favorite for 2011! How the days have flown by. Well, if it's the end and I'm going out, I'm going out with a fight! I went hard for my last favorite, I picked Krav Maga! As some of you may know, I have been taking Krav from KMV since March of this year and absolutely love it! To be completely honest, it scared the crap out of me and that's why I signed up for it. Now, I'm so glad I have! Not only have I gotten great health benefits from it (Cardio, Muscle Building) but I have also learned invaluable self defense and combat training! Plus, I personally feel by facing your fears head on you not only obviously conquer them but you are in powered and in so many emotional and mental ways. How can you not be when you stare something down that scares you and overcome it??
Classes aren't what I'd call cheap, and KMV isn't going to give you a discount for being recommended by me (although I DO think I get something if you sign up...What? Hello! Isn't it time I get something too?!?) but they really are worth it. AND, for all you discount, freebie wanters out there.....you are allowed to audit one class to see what you think, for free! And why not take ONE CLASS for FREE to find out?

Plus, if you let me know, I'd even be willing to take the class that day too. So to summarize, someone you know to make you feel more comfortable (i.e. ME), networking, getting a work out, learning great defense skills, trying something new and challenging, AND all for free!

So let me tell you a story...Once upon a time there was a guy that for years heard that Yoga was "good for you." He had tried yoga here and there, but never really connected, or liked it. Something weird about it, something hippy-ish and uncomfortable and oddly feminine. Then one day Groupon offered a coupon for yoga classes from a local Studio City business called Yoga Shelter (they also have five locations in Michigan) and this guy thought, "Alright, I'll try again." He did, and he ended up not only loving his experiences there but finally understanding WHY yoga is so great! Now, he loves yoga and posts things on facebook and his blog and other places encouraging others to try it!
True Story! :)
I encourage anyone local to Studio City (or anyone who lives in Michigan) to check out Yoga Shelter! It's an amazing place, with an amazing supportive energy. Alright, so shifting gears for today, this may not be a small business or an individual, but I figured this is most definitely one of my new Favorites this year, and you got to mix it up right? Get it...mix it up?? :) I also figured that many people have probably not heard of this yet, or if they have, they haven't tried it yet! My thoughts, TRY IT, gosh damn, it's tasty!! However, since I found a more articulate, detailed review on http://www.drinkspirits.com I'll share parts of that with you (for those looking for more details on it's taste): "The nose is sweet and spicy, with solid cinnamon notes and a light floral undertone. The entry opens with clear honey notes which is quickly backed up by a perfect level of cinnamon. There’s more spice here than heat and the spice is absolutely dialed in. The cinnamon fades in the mid-palate and gives way to a subtle milk chocolate note which lingers after a fairly swift finish. There’s absolutely no heat in the finish, and for a sweet honey liqueur, it impressively doesn’t leave a heavy residue on the palate." So, to summarize....YUMMY!!! Since I still feel bad for not writing a specific review in my own words I DID research for you the best (cheapest) place to buy it online, that would be HERE Shipping is high, but even with shipping costs, this site was the lowest price I found. Also, you can check your local grocery store! When you try it, let me know what you think!

Ah Katie! What can I say about Katie....well first off, she is a Costume Designer and Stylist. Meaning she constructs things and also designs things. I was fortunate enough to meet and work with Tracy Vonder Haar and was so impressed with her center I wanted to pass it along to all of you! It is located in La Canada, CA and the center offers classes for kids to adults! I personally think anything that offers children (and others) exposure to the arts is a good thing! Excerpts of the Vonder Haar Mission Statement, really sum it up for me though..."To provide an environment which fosters young artists and provides an avenue for professional development and creativity...To develop respect and appreciation for the Arts in the performers and the audience alike...To entertain, inform, and educate audiences." How can you not support THAT?

I love this restaurant! I discovered it fairly recently and it has skyrocketed to one of my favorites! They have three locations in total (Farmer's Market, Hollywood) but I go to the Studio City location and have been impressed by not only their food and drinks but their AMAZING customer service!! Some of my favorite menu items, 1) Probaditas -Sampler: All 12 flavors of their Tacos served on Mini Hand-made Tortillas and 2) Pollo en Pipian Rojo: Chicken in a Spicy Pumpkin-Seed and Peanut Sauce Served with Finely Chopped Onion. YUM!
If you aren't sold yet, they have Happy Hour, 3pm-6pm, EVERYDAY. All drinks are 50% off and they also have discounted Happy Hour food available (I recommend the Chicken Chalupa). And definitely be sure to try their Cucumber Margarita (seriously, amazing), just the spicy/sugary rim on the cup is worth the price of admission, and it's not listed on the menu, so be sure to ask for it!!

Paul's 12 Days of December!

Tis the season to be generous. Tis the season to help others and give back. I often feel that while I agree with these sentiments they tend to get lost or forgotten in all the business of the holidays! This year I started thinking about what I could DO to change that, and hopefully add a little holiday spirit to my life and to others. So I'm doing Paul's 12 Days of December! What is Paul's 12 Days of December you ask? Well, let me explain...Starting December 1st and till the 12th, each day I will take the opportunity to support and officially endorse ONE of my favorite things in the hope that others will discover and support them also! Ah, now you get it, right?
I obviously have MANY favorite things (there is so much in and about life to LIKE) these are just my 12 picks for this year! Ultimately, I figured things that I like, and am still passionate about, such as Tivo, Starbucks, Amazon or Priceline didn't specifically need my personal endorsement. So instead, I focused on things in MY life that maybe you have never heard of or don't even know about. Things that I am passionate about and want others to be! Many are local to Los Angeles, where I live. Some are more specific to me being a part of the entertainment business, some don't matter what business you are in. Some you can eat. Some cause sweat. Some move your feet.

Cold Heart Canyon, a feature length film I did a few years ago, has just recently been put up on youtube by Maverick Entertainment, for free!
Yup, you can now see one of my features for nothing!! Ahhh, the world of free content! Although, I do wonder how new content will be produced if no one pays for anything....but I digress!
Cold Heart Canyon is a sexy thriller that is a little bit of a "whodoneit." I had a blast working with the cast and crew on this film, and while the pace was extremely fast, I think overall I'm happy with my performance.

It's a MAD MAD World...and I Wanna Be a Part of It....

So I have decided to enter AMC's Mad Men contest and try and win a walk on role for Mad Men. The really fun thing about the contest is that it is initially a popularity contest (based on votes) but the top 10 Men and the top 10 Women will become finalists and all will be seen by the creator and executive producer of Mad Men, Matthew Weiner! For an actor, it really is an amazing opportunity! I feel like I have a great chance, not only due to my amazing network of supporters but also due to the photo I am submitting. I am very proud of it and worked very hard on it! The photographer, Mike Thomas, did an amazing job, and special thanks to Camille LaBry, and Jamie Dedeaux for their efforts on the shoot!

"Restaurang"

They say with movies there are three versions, the one that is written, the one that is filmed, and then the one that is edited. I guess that's the case with Commercials too!
This is a commercial I worked on for the Swedish Company, Hitta. Hitta is a Swedish search engine that offers telephone directory, addresses and maps.
The final version, that is currently airing in Sweden, is below, however the original script was slightly different. In it a mismatched couple on a first date are in a fine restaurant waiting for their waiter to open and pour their wine. After a struggle (and some inappropriate flirtation) the distracted waiter finally opens the bottle, but ends up spilling it all over the woman and her dress, at which point she storms out, date over!
The final version is a much shorter, simpler version but that's the thing with an actor. Your job is only one part of a larger project. At the end of the day you can only hope that you've done your job and that the final results will be great!
The shoot was a true pleasure to work on and a lot of fun. The other actors and crew were great!
The commercial is directed by Markus Johnson and features actors Paul Howard, Iacopo Wachter, and Eli Jane. Produced by the film production company Kamisol.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to work on a really great, and truly unique, project called "The Train Station Project." You can see the trailer below, but basically, 25 filmmakers from around the world, film different parts of one script, then all the parts are put together, to create a complete movie.
The Los Angeles sequence featured myself, the victim of a car accident, and "The Man in Brown" (the lead character of the movie), and a mysterious backpack in my backseat....I can't say too much more but the script is really great! I loved being involved and can't wait to see the finished project! The sequence that was filmed prior to LA was in Dubai, the one after is being produced in Bogata, Columbia. It truly is a worldwide project!! Very cool!!
Todd Felderstein with The Story Project (another amazing organization!) directed the Los Angeles clip and was a pleasure to work with, in addition to Camille LaBry (UPM) and the entire talented crew!

A robbery with a twist, in the END....

This is a project I did in 2005. It was directed by Timothy Durr and features Anna Easteden and myself in a home robbery. It was originally created for FHM's Joke of the Month. So think of it as a home invasion, with a twist, in the end!
The project was a lot of fun to work on, and the talented Anna Easteden was a true pleasure to work with. I ended up working on a few other things with Timothy and look forward to working with him again in the future.
I just recently acquired the digital version (Special thanks to Ryane McNally) and thought that it would be fun to share. Enjoy!

Trivia is always fun, so in honor of my current trip to Seattle...
Do you know where the name Seattle comes from??

Seattle was named after the Native American Chief, Chief Seattle (an Anglicization of Si'ahl), that once ruled these lands! The City was named in honor of him!

I am excited to be in town for the showings of my film, sauce (verb): to make agreeable or less harsh at Seattle's True Independent Film Festival (STIFF).
There is a great accomplishment for me in just getting this film made, but I have to say, it is an amazing honor to have your work recognized and accepted. I am honored to have 'sauce' accepted to another festival and look forward to seeing it play with a new audience! Seattle has been a beautiful host (the weather has been amazing) and I can't wait to see the Seattle audience's reaction!
'Sauce' plays both Monday (6/6), and Tuesday (6/7) at Seattle's True Independent Film Festival (STIFF).

Paul Gets Between Her Legs

Just added to GetPaulHoward.com is a photo series I did about a year ago with Photographer Mike Thomas, entitled, Between Her Legs.
The photo series tells the story of a couple meeting, falling in love, getting married and their lives together through the ups and downs of a relationship. While the story of a couple falling in love is not unique, the series most definitely is! It's unique (and creative) do to the perspective of the shots. Each photo from the series is shot through the woman's legs. While this makes things unique, it could also sometimes pose a challenge to logistically tell a story and still create a beautiful shot. Through much work, creative ingenuity, and sometimes extremely awkward posing, I think Mike succeeded in this challenge!
Included in the gallery on GPH, are "B-Sides" or alternative shots for some of the various scenes that end up telling more of the story.
It was a pleasure to work with Mike Thomas, and Jamie Dedeaux (the actress who belongs to the legs) to create these unique and fun shots. This was one of the longest projects I worked on, and clocked many hours on, but it's a pleasure to know that after seeing the end result it was all worth it!

'Sauce' is off to see the wizard...

No, not THAT Emerald City, Toto....Seattle, Washington, the other Emerald City!

I am very excited to announce that the dates for my film, sauce (v): to make agreeable or less harsh, have been announced!
'Sauce' will be playing the Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) on June 6th and again on June 7th!
It's always nice to have your work accepted, especially by an established and successful festival like STIFF. I am very excited to have my film show here.

So, all you Seattle residents, please come out and support my film! For the rest of you, stay tuned for future festivals and dates that 'sauce' will be playing!

I said I wanted Gritty...and then, I did it on ACTUAL film!

Here are the gritty results from my recent photo shoot with Photographer Christopher Singleton.

I had come across Christopher's work on ModelMayhem and while most of it was nudes, I was struck by the "grit" and "wash" of his work. It looked dated, almost like it was authentic photos from the wild west. One particular picture shows a man dressed as a classic cowboy and I could believe it was real, and from some distant time. I also found out that Chris shots with real film, which is extremely rare now, and was intrigued by that fact!
So I decided it would be fun to work together on something, lucky for me, Chris was very excited to work together and had a trip already planned to LA! So an old mattress and an alley later....we had a shot!

I am very, very excited to announce, and finally share, my brand spanking new; Acting Demo Reel!! It has been years (where does the time go?) since I updated my reel, so it is exciting to have a new version to show! I am also excited to finally be able to share some of my more recent acting work!
The reel was expertly and professionally edited by Ryane McNally who has done an amazing job (and someone I highly recommend if you need an editor!).

I Speak Swedish!!

I speak Swedish! Ok....not really...but more on that later....
This past weekend, I had a blast working with the talented production company Kamisol on a commercial project for Sweden. I can't discuss specific details on the project yet, but as soon as I can, or once it's complete, I will update here!
What I can say, the commercial was directed by Markus Johnson who was a blast to work with! Besides being a talented and fun director he could always also consider a career in teaching! Since, last minute, they decided it would be great for the lead actress and I to speak a few lines of Swedish! Since neither one of us speak the language, Markus taught us how to speak it (or at least fake it for the purpose of this commercial). He was successful in teaching us and I look forward to seeing the final product! My understanding is that it will appear in numerous forms in Sweden (television, print, billboard, online) so I guess anyone based in Sweden or planning a trip there should keep a look out.
Hmmm....maybe this is the perfect excuse to plan a trip and visit somewhere I haven't been yet!!

GetPaulHoward.com has been updated with a new gallery added to my portfolio, showcasing my work with photographer, Xue Vue.
I have had the pleasure of working with Xue numerous times now. One of the things I love about working with him is he's always down with something new and different and seems to have the ability to change his style much like I change my looks.
Since he is based in Northern California I usually set up a time to work with him when I visit family, usually once or twice a year. We've added to the diversity of our work by using the extreme seasonal differences of Northern California, in our shoots. From our first shoot, an edgy and hot (literally) couple fashion shoot in Old Sacramento, that took place on the old train tracks (and trains), to our most recent more moody (and rainy), "city life" DKNY inspired editorial shoot in downtown Sacramento, Xue always produces amazing images! Easy to work with, creative, and just a nice guy, I look forward to continuing to work together in the future! Creating more and more, new and diverse images!

Smart Car Clip

Here's a fun spec commercial, just released, that I did in 2010 for Smart Car. It was a really fun and laid back shoot that we did in the "desert," south of Las Vegas. Not only did I have a lot of fun working that day with the talented cast and crew, but I really enjoyed seeing the final product. From the original story boards, to filming, and now complete....I think it turned out great!

This is a fun project I'm really excited to share with you... It's something I worked on a couple months back but has just recently been completed (perfectly timed with the release of George Michael's new album, Faith- Remastered. More on the release can be found at at http://www.georgemichael.com/)

These photos were shot by Mike Thomas (Mike Thomas Portraiture), for a creative project that he is working on, in which he "recreates" different and iconic album covers. They are not exact replicas, and not meant to be, but they are close, with just slight "pops" of creativity and change. I mean, what fun is it to literally recreate something? You have to add your own style and make it yours.
That's actually one of the things that drew me to this project, the fact that he wanted to recreate but also re-imagine.

Mike and I decided to tackle the cover of George Michael's 1987 album, Faith. Not as easy as it may seem, but the shoot was a lot of fun. You can see the result below and my version of Faith.
After we captured the album shot, we did more. Since I was all dressed up and styled as George, we had some fun with additional shots that had a George Michael "vibe" or were other recreations of some of his famous photos and images from his videos....see the results below.
This project was a blast to work on and I have really enjoyed the end result! I hope you do too!

Mr. Sunshine Publicity Shots Released

I had the opportunity to do some featured modeling work for ABC late last year. The shoot was for publicity shots to promote their new show, Mr. Sunshine, starring Matthew Perry!

New Short Released, Immigration Story

As part of the 6th Annual Art Walk, an event which brings visitors and artists to the Nashua, New Hampshire area, Nashua's International Film Festival at Art Walk will kick off as part of a three day event, October 1-3, 2010. Art Walk was "rated as one of the best art events in New Hampshire and Nashua by 2010 readers" according to HippoPress. The Nashua International Film Festival at Art Walk will recognize the best of emerging independent filmmakers. Started through the initiative of City Arts Nashua and local filmmaker John McCarthy, the event will take place in Nashua's historic Downtown and embrace the growing artist community. Residents of the public in Nashua have expressed a strong interest in film returning to Downtown Nashua and by uniting their interests with those of filmmakers, the Nashua International Film Festival at Art Walk promises to be a celebration of independent film. Actor Paul Howard's Biography

Ask Paul's parents, and they will tell you Paul was destined to be a performer. As a child he grabbed his toy guitar and performed Beatles songs for them on a makeshift stage; as a teenager he gained local notoriety for his uncanny ability to emulate Michael Jackson down to the smallest nuances of his performance; and when he ultimately left his Sacramento home to attend the University of California, Irvine as a drama major, his fate was sealed.

After college, Paul moved north towards the bright lights of Hollywood, where his interests in the entertainment industry continued to grow and evolve, the one thing that hasn't changed however is Paul's devoted passion to the performing arts. He has built a life working in the industry, and has been seen in film, television, music videos, local theater and his modeling work has appeared online and in national publications. Many of his credits can be found here at his official website, as well as at the film reference site IMDB.com.
